Get in shape

We all like to think we’re in shape. But did you know that even if you do regular activity, taking a break can be detrimental? A study from the University of Liverpool came up with some interesting results. It was a small study based on just twenty-eight people, who walked, on average, 10,000 steps a day. They were asked to reduce their activity to just 1,500 steps a day. After two weeks, the results showed many detrimental effects: participants had decreased insulin sensitivity, increased abdominal fat, increased fatty liver deposits and increased triglycerides. They could not run as far and did not have as much energy. This occurred after only two weeks of reduced activity. It was observed that the participants were still doing normal things, such as going to college and taking care of children. This showed that daily routines can lead to a sedentary lifestyle that is detrimental to health.
