Meditation for anxiety

Study shows that people with anxiety benefit from meditation.

Anxiety is a common mental health problem and sufferers face many difficulties in their daily lives. One of the characteristic symptoms of anxiety is repetitive thinking, especially when worrying about future events. These thoughts can inhibit productivity and negativity, affecting a person’s mood. Canadian researchers studying the benefits of mindfulness decided to test whether meditation could be a valuable tool to help anxiety sufferers maintain focus and calm the mind. The study focused on the participants’ thoughts as they performed a task. However, the big difference was in the way their minds wandered. After meditating, their thoughts were no longer predominantly about the future and internal struggles, but about random things that were happening around them. The researchers believe that this change could greatly improve the lives of anxiety sufferers.
